The Garden and Building
Flower Pod occupies 1.5 acres of landscaped gardens located just outside the cathedral town of Southwell in Nottinghamshire. Leased from Nottingham Trent University, the site was turned over to Reach Learning Disability for regeneration in 2012.
Starting as a bare plot, huge support from the local community was required to clear the site and prepare for planting.
A substantial grant from The Department of Health enabled the initial investment in a large industrial poly-tunnel and construction of our beautiful single-story straw bale building.
Three ponds fed from the estate water drainage provide a sustainable source of water for our horticultural activities.
Throughout the site we strive to minimize our carbon foot print, use natural materials and recycle wherever possible.
With fabulous views of Southwell and surrounding countryside, the landscape was designed to provide a layout conducive to working with people with learning disabilities whilst producing flowers of commercial quality for sale.
We have many plans for further development of the site but these do require funding and implementation support. For example, we would love to build a multifunctional amphitheatre with facilities that can be shared with the local community. Please contact us if you are interested in getting involved.
